Recommendations: A Good Dose of Fantasy

Week of 02/24/2017:

Fantasy Books I Recommend-

  • Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: Book Two, Lord of Shadows is coming out in May! Lady Midnight is set in Los Angeles after The Mortal Instruments series concluded. It follows Emma Carstairs, her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, Julian’s siblings, and Emma’s many acquaintances. I highly recommend reading the Mortal Instruments first, as many characters appear, but Lady Midnight is good for The Dark Artifices alone. Rating: 5/5 stars

  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas: The second installment to the amazing trilogy that was started with A Court of Thorns and Roses, preceded with this work, and will end with A Court of Wings and Ruin, coming out in May! A Court of Mist and Fury follows Feyre and Tamlin in the Spring Court, right after the harrowing events in Amarantha’s court Under the Mountain. Feyre struggles with Tamlin’s difficult behavior and with the bargain she has made with the High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand. I recommend reading ACOTAR before this book, but you are missing out on a lot if you don’t read this work of art. Rating: 5/5 stars

  • Heartless by Marissa Meyer: Heartless is a retelling of the infamous Alice in Wonderland, only told pre-Alice. It’s a beautifully written stand-alone with a lot of forbidden love, and angst. Lots and lots of angst. It’s about Catherine Pinkerton, the daughter of a wealthy family, and an aspiring baker. She falls in love with the Court Joker, and in a spiraling series of events, Catherine- all of a sudden- is the Queen of Hearts. You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens, but I really recommend this work of perfection. Rating: 5/5 stars18584855

  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: Welcome to Ketterdam, the bustling hub of trade. Residing in the town, is Kaz Brekker, an infamous thief, as well as five other unique individuals with surprising talents. Meet Inej Ghafa, a spy known as the Wraith, Nina Zenik, a Heartrender, Wylan Van Eck, the son of a privileged father with a taste for chemistry, Jesper Fahey, a sharpshooter and something else I won’t tell you, and Matthias Helvar, a convict with a thirst for revenge. Kaz and his crew are hired by a merchant to steal something, and someone from a dangerous location in return for money. Will they all survive?  Read to find out! Six of Crows is followed by the second book in the duology- Crooked Kingdom- which is amazing, so read it! This duology also intertwines with the Grisha trilogy, but I didn’t read it and still loved this so…. NO EXCUSES. Rating: 5/5 stars!
