Three Dark Crowns is a very boring novel. I’m just going to say that.
In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.
The last queen standing gets the crown.
I REALLY, REALLY almost stop reading this book. It started off really slow, and you barely got an introduction into the world. You were just thrust into this entirely new universe, and you get nothing from it. at all.
Three Dark Crowns features three triplet queens, all sisters, who have to fight for the throne to the death. Arsinoe is supposed to be a naturalist (and useless), Katharine, the youngest, is a poisoner with a horrible stomach, and Mirabella is an elemental, who breaks the ground and dances in fire(what have her parents taught her????). By far, Mirabella is the strongest and no one expects the other two to win.
The novel also features some other minor characters, Jules, Arisone’s best friend who flits around killing bears and being upset at Joseph, who basically is cheating on her with the enemy. Elizabeth is technically Mirabella’s torture shard and the rest are so unimportant.
Three Dark Crowns has a very interesting plot, don’t get me wrong. But the first seven eighths of this book are so boring. They’re about the queens walking around getting dressed and having ultimate love problems.
The novel just progresses so slowly, and there is barely any action that anyone cares about. It’s not as interesting as everything makes it out to be and it hurts so bad. The plot is essentially dead.
“It was only a joke, Mia,” says Bree gently. “Of course I do not wish that. No one really wishes to be queen.”
It’s kind of ironic with these quotes in that MIRABELLA DOESN’T WANT TO KILL HER SISTERS. IF I SPOILED IT THEN I SAVED YOU A YEAR OF FALLING ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL.
This book made me cringe so much and it’s unbearably horrid.
